Why Does the Built-in Web Browser in VeEX Test Sets Keep Getting Redirected to WhatsMyIP.veexinc.com?
This is not due to a browser hijack, malware, or configuration error. It is by design. The basic built-in browser uses the WhatsMyIP test page to check connectivity, confirm IP reachability and provisioning.

The built-in Web Browser in certain VeEX test sets is a legacy feature used to verify Internet access connectivity. It was not meant to navigate the internet. So, by default, it points to a simple WhatsMyIP.veexinc.com website that provides basic information and elements to confirm end-to-end connectivity against a known server on the Internet. For example, this landing page is explicitly used as a provisioning indicator on DOCSIS-capable meters (e.g., CX-series).
With users carrying more modern, secure and powerful browsers in their pockets, the need for full web browsing capabilities of the limited test set screen became obsolete, since mobile devices are easier to use and navigate.
Modern (complex) websites may not render correctly, take long time to load or not render at all. In those cases, the browser may go back to its default page. The site www.veexinc.com will always be redirected to the test page.
Cable Modem & Provisioning Check
As an example, VeEX explicitly uses this page as a provisioning indicator, especially on DOCSIS-capable meters (e.g., CX-series):
- When you open the internal browser, the test set is taken to
http://whatsmyip.veexinc.com/ - If the meter is properly provisioned, the page shows the IP address
- If the meter is not provisioned, you may instead be redirected to:
- An ISP activation page
- A captive portal
- A login / walled‑garden page
This is considered a simple diagnostic step to confirm whether the cable modem MAC address is authorized on the network.
Why Does It Sometimes Feels Like a “Redirect Loop”
Because:
- The built‑in browser capabilities are limited
- It often starts at the default page again when navigation fails
- Some external websites require JavaScript, HTTPS features, or redirects that the VeEX browser doesn’t fully support
So, when a site doesn’t load correctly, the browser appears to “snap back” to the VeEX IP test page.
