It is VeEX's implementation of ITU-T Y.1564 Ethernet Service Activation Test Methodology
The ITU-T Y.1564 recommendation defines a Service Activation test Methodology (SAM), which is used to assess the proper configuration and performance of an Ethernet network, or link, to deliver Ethernet-based services in conformance with a Service Level Agreement (SLA). This detailed out-of-service test methodology enables service providers to validate the performance of Ethernet-based services in a standardized (multi-vendor) and repeatable manner.
The goal of this test methodology is to validate the key performance indicators (KPI) for Ethernet frame transfer, as defined in the ITU-T Y.1563 standard. The methodology has two main objectives:
- Validate that each Ethernet-based service being delivered is correctly configured, per SLA.
- Validate and document the quality of the services as delivered to the end user.
VeEX’s V-SAM test suite is fully compliant with ITU-T Y.1564 and offers an efficient method to qualify and troubleshoot Ethernet Services. V-SAM addresses some of RCF2544 limitations by testing multiple services at once and providing simultaneous measurements of key SLA parameters.
The Service Configuration test validates multiple services running on the same link are tested one by one to verify their correct service profile provisioning. The Service Performance test stresses all the services running on the same link, testing them simultaneously over an extended period of time, to verify network robustness.
V-SAM offers support for Multi-stream traffic generation, Service Configuration and Service Performance tests, independently configurable for each stream
- Frame size: Fixed or EMIX pattern
- Bandwidth profile parameters: CIR, EIR, CBS, EBS Traffic Policing
- Service acceptance criteria: FLR, FTD, IFDV, AVAIL
This test suite has been designed with the end user in mind and allows for quick provisioning, execution and analysis of the test results, even without prior detailed knowledge of the standard.
V-SAM provides simple summary Pass/Fail results tables and drill-down capability with detailed measurements for each service (Frame Loss, Frame Transfer Delay, Frame Delay Variation, Availability).
