What is VeEX's FiberBEAST?
FiberBEAST™, a trademark used by VeEX Inc., is a fiber optics test suite that performs automated bidirectional insertion loss (IL), optical return loss (ORL), and unidirectional OTDR measurements, using up to three wavelengths, via a single test port. Available in the FX160.
The FX160's FiberBEAST™, a (Bidirectional Easy Analysis by a Single Technician) test suite performs automated bidirectional insertion loss (IL), optical return loss (ORL), and unidirectional OTDR measurements for up to three wavelengths via a single test port.
Fiber testing is a critical step in verifying network performance and warranting compliance with industry standards. Higher bit rates, lower latency, and stricter optical loss budgets has intensified demand for accurate insertion and return loss testing, but finding qualified technicians to verify these evolving high-speed networks has been a Service Provider challenge. FX160 with FiberBEAST paired with a companion tester addresses this demand by employing intuitive and automated test sequencies.
As Optical fiber distribution network (ODN) deployments continue to ramp up worldwide, service providers struggle to keep pace with the testing and reporting aspects. A shortage of skilled technicians with fiber certification experience adds to the challenge, so demand for a simple one button, full function tester with automated fiber test functions, smart workflow routines, and test reporting features is growing rapidly.
The FX160 OTDR is available in regular Point-to-Point (P2P) and PON-Optimized versions, with a selection of two or three wavelengths.
The FX160's Fiber BEAST test suite addresses this challenge and market requirement by leveraging the test capability of multiple instruments (light source, power meter, optic loss test set, ORL meter, and OTDR) integrated within the unit. Using a single test port only, automated fiber certification tests are performed when paired with a remote FX160 companion instrument.
The FX160 automatically pairs with its remote test partner when connected to the fiber link under test. Serial number information and fiber reference values are exchanged before testing starts.
In the setup, the technician simply selects the OLTS, ORL or OTDR option (or any combination thereof), and configures the desired wavelength(s). Prior to testing, Pass/Fail thresholds and reference values can still be modified or edited as needed.
A single Start button initiates the test sequence based on the test options selected. The unit initiating the test automatically becomes the Master and controls communication and test sequence with the remote test set.
Test results form an integral part of the fiber certification process and serve as a valuable reference for future network planning and service expansion. The FX160 generates detailed fiber cable reports containing all measurements plus link information. Pass/Fail verdicts based on customer thresholds or industry standards, are also provided. Fiber installers can confidently submit these test reports to receive payment, knowing the results are reliable and accurate.
The FX160 also features a built-in visual fault finder and supports a range of VeEX fiber inspection scopes which can be tethered to the device via USB or WiFi.
