What Does CALAN Mean?
CALAN Inc. was one of the first companies to offer synchronized sweep systems for CATV and LAN. Its name is still associated with cable plant sweep. VeEX owns the rights to its intellectual property

CALAN® Inc. was a pioneering test and measurement company best known for revolutionizing Community Antenna Television (CATV) systems. They are historically credited with introducing the industry’s first integrated synchronized frequency sweep systems and spectrum analyzers for coaxial and broadband networks, CATV and coaxial-based LAN systems, hence their name. They were later acquired by Hewlett Packard, becoming a division of HP, then Agilent Technologies. The CALAN division was later acquired by Sunrise Telecom Inc., which its assets were then purchased by VeEX Inc. in 2013.
The CALAN brand name somehow kept its relevance in the CATV market throughout the years and multiple acquisitions. Besides offering good and successful products, it still has a very strong worldwide brand recognition within the MSO community.
In 2013, Sunrise Telecom sold its assets to VeEX Inc. Today, VeEX retains the rights to CALAN’s intellectual property and trademarks, continuing the legacy with modern instruments like a modernized version of the popular CaLan® 3010H+.
