SCM-HD-410 System Controller Module

Before you begin:

important The SCM-HD-410 System Controller Module is shipped separately from the MPA-HD chassis, and will need to be installed prior to use.
stop The MPA-HD chassis must be turned off when inserting or removing test modules. Refer to the Shutdown procedure in the MPA-HD User Manual to safely turn off the MPA-HD system.
caution Hardware required: #1 Phillips-Head Screwdriver (not included).

safety  Safe Module Handling:

  • Inserting and removing MPA-HD hardware components should only be performed by authorized and suitably qualified personnel.
  • Thoroughly read all the provided instructions from start to finish, making sure to understand each step clearly, and then execute the actions exactly as outlined without making any assumptions or changes unless explicitly authorized.
  • Prevent foreign objects from entering the MPA-HD chassis while inserting and removing test modules, which could create short circuits or damage internal fans and components.
  • When electrical components are removed from the MPA-HD chassis, always store test modules by themselves in individual ESD protected packaging (with no loose elements such as screws, tools, laser modules, or other test modules).

ESD danger  Danger of Electrostatic Discharge (ESD):

  • Static electricity can harm sensitive electronic components. Always follow proper ESD procedures when handling MPA-HD electrical components, such as wearing a grounded ESD wrist strap or ESD shoe grounders.
  • A chassis ground plug is located on the back of the chassis, andMPA-HD ESD terminal a 4 mm banana-jack terminal for an ESD wrist strap is located on the front of the chassis, in the lower-left corner below the “VeEX” logo.

System Controller Insertion :

How to insert the System Controller Module into the MPA-HD chassis:

  1. Make sure that the MPA-HD chassis is powered off. Refer to the MPA-HD Shutdown Procedure as needed.
  2. If the SCM slot is currently covered, remove the blank faceplate . SCM-HD-410_(faceplate)
  3. Carefully remove the system controller module from its shipping container and protective ESD bag.SCM-HD-410_(Container)
  4. Verify the module is oriented correctly, and align the edges of the module’s circuit board with the guide rails near the bottom of the open slot.SCM-HD-410_(insert2)
  5. Carefully slide in the module along the guide rails until it contacts the backplane socket, then apply enough pressure on the front of the module to fully seat the module’s connector into the backplane socket.
    • The backplane connector provides metal alignment brackets to ensure proper alignment when the module is inserted.

  6. The system controller module is secured in place with four mounting screws, which securely fasten the faceplate to the MPA-HD chassis.  (#1 Phillips-Head Screwdriver required)SCM-HD-410 System Controller Module (insertion)
  7. When the system controller module is fully seated, the faceplate will be flush with the other test module faceplates, or blank slot covers, in the system.

System Controller Removal:

How to remove the System Controller Module from the MPA-HD chassis:

  1. Make sure that the MPA-HD chassis is powered off.
  2. Loosen the four mounting screws that fastened the SCM faceplate to the MPA-HD chassis, located in each corner of the module’s faceplate.  (#1 Phillips-Head Screwdriver required)SCM-HD-410 System Controller Module (insertion)
  3. Use the two handles to firmly pull the system controller module with enough force to disengage the module away from the backplane socket, and stop
  4. Once the system controller module is detached from the backplane, then gently pull the module out of the MPA-HD chassis slot.SCM-HD-410_(remove)
  5. Place the system controller module on an ESD-protected surface or into an ESD antistatic bag.
  6. If a different system controller module is not being installed into the empty slot, then attach a blank faceplate cover over the open slot to prevent dust or other foreign objects from entering the MPA-HD chassis. (#1 Phillips-Head Screwdriver required)

caution To maintain product compliance with EMI requirements, all test module slots in the MPA-HD chassis must be occupied with a test module, or covered with a blank faceplate, when the system is in use.
