How to Disable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Radios Before Entering a Secure Location?

With most VeEX product, compliance is as simple as removing the USB transceivers from the test set and leaving them in the truck/van.

Secure sites and IT network security policies continue with the trend of restricting and banning the use of radio transceivers inside certain facilities. With most VeEX products, compliance is as simple as removing the USB transceivers (radios) from the test set and leaving them in the truck, van or car.

Portable test sets from the V300 (e.g., TX300s, CX380C), RXT-1200, MTTplus and AT2500-3G families of VeEX products, DO NOT include built-in Wi-Fi or Bluetooth® radios. They rely on standard, commercially available, pluggable USB transceivers, which can be added or removed by end users at any time.

In general, the use of pluggable USB transceivers is very convenient and advantageous. For more information refer to this article

Test Sets from the V150 family (e.g., MTX150, MTX150x, FX120, FX150+, FX180, etc.) and V90 family (e.g., FX92, PX90) do have built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth transceivers.

On the V150 series, they can be disabled by going to >LAN & Connectivity >Bluetooth/WiFi >Bluetooth and toggle the Bluetooth Radio switch. Then tap on the Wi-Fi tab, then Connect and Setup, to toggle the WiFi Radio switch.

Clearing the Memory

Certain sites may also require removing all information acquired inside the secure site from the test set, before leaving the premises.

  • It is recommended to perform a backup prior to entering the secured facility, if you want to preserve any existing (previously saved) test results. To do this, insert a USB memory Stick into the test set, go to the File Manager, select all the desired files, and tap on the export To USB function. Leave the USB memory stick behind.
  • Once the testing inside the secure site has finished, if you are asked to clear all the information from the test set, you may go to the File Manager, select all the files and then Delete.
  • However, in certain cases you may be asked to clear the whole test set. In those cases, go to Utilities, Files, Manage and perform a Format. This will reformat the internal storage, clears the memory and bring the unit back to its factory defaults.
  • Once you get back to the truck/van/car, you can plug the USB memory stick and use the import From USB function to restore all your original files.
