One of the key design features of the Optical Connector Protector's patent pending design is that it uses standard panel mounting holes, so replacing the connector base is fairly simple, so there is no need to buy a brand-new test set to take advantage of the cost and time saving benefits.

If a test set needs to be sent to a service center for optical connector repairs and/or recalibration, it is worth considering performing the upgrade to the Optical Connector Protector option. It may save you money. However, upgrade may not make sense for certain simpler low-cost meters, such as power meters, since the involved parts, labor and shipping cost could justify replacing it with a brand-new unit instead.

The cost of the upgrade varies depending on the type of test set, its configuration and current condition, due to the number of ports and whether recalibration is required or not.
