One of the key design features of the Optical Connector Protector's patent pending design is that it uses standard panel mount holes, hence replacing the connector base is fairly simple, so there is no need to buy a brand-new test set to take advantage of its cost and time saving benefits. However, this procedure must be performed at an authorized service center.

If a test set needs to be sent to a service center for optical connector repairs and/or recalibration, it is worth considering performing the upgrade to the Optical Connector Protector option at that moment. It will save you money. However, such upgrade may not make sense for certain simpler low-cost meters, such as power meters, since the total cost of involved parts, labor and shipping could justify replacing them with brand-new meters instead.
