About the "Aircrack-ng HackTool" Antivirus Security Warning. Is it Secure?

Aircrack-ng, a powerful open-source security tool, is safe when used for legitimate and ethical applications, such as Wi-Fi analysis and diagnostics. However, there are chances for false positive "Hack Tool" antivirus flagging for certain VeEX installation (software update) packages.

Aircrack-ng is a widely used open-source wireless security tool intended for legitimate applications such as Wi‑Fi® scanning, analysis, and diagnostics. Because some of its capabilities overlap with functions commonly associated with offensive security tools, antivirus software such as Microsoft Defender or Kaspersky may occasionally flag it as a “Hack Tool” or generate a false positive detection, when downloading, unzipping or copying certain software update packages from VeEX.

  • Security: Aircrack-ng is a standard suite of command-line tools often used by network administrators and ethical (white-hat) hackers to test Wi-Fi network security.
  • Core Functions: It allows users to monitor wireless traffic, capture handshake data, and test the strength of WEP, WPA, and WPA2 passwords.

This software tool is used internally on select VeEX WLAN analyzer test sets for ethical network analysis. It enables the instrument’s Wi‑Fi adapter to operate in monitor mode and access raw 802.11 traffic, allowing functionalities such as client scans across access points (AP) based on their beacon packets.

  • VeEX test sets do not provide users with access to the Aircrack-ng utility or direct access to any of its features or functions. It is used solely for internal instrument operations.

  • VeEX does not install Aircrack-ng on customers' networks, servers, PCs, tablets, phones or IOT devices.

Warning sign Always Maintain Supply Chanin Integrity

To guarantee a Safe (Clean) software packages always get such programs from a trusted vendor, the official Aircrack-ng website or one of their trusted security partners.

  • The software itself does not contain viruses, backdoors, or hidden malware.
  • Only download software updates, for VeEX instruments, directly from VeEX's official website, VeExpress™, or R-Server™.
  • In general, avoid alternate software or firmware sources, downloads or installations, to prevent man-in-the-middle type of attacks, in which firmware images may not be exactly what the vendor intended, whether from a compromised build pipeline or a tampered/re-packaged download.
